I got an email from someone I don't know but he said he knows a friend of mine.
He has a 2014 V10 one-ton pickup truck in Guadalajara and "Jim" said he believes the battery is going bad.
Up jumps the monster. The rumor that if the chassis battery is disconnected the computer will go to open loop upon restarting and then not be re-settable until a trip to a Ford dealer allows them to re-boot the computer.
He said the mechanics told him they have never heard of such a thing and want to replace the battery. He telephoned the biggest Ford dealer in Zapopan and their response was "huh?"
Knowing how hard headed mechanics are they would not follow instructions to jumper another battery to keep the system alive when the battery cables are removed.
But I do not know the validity of the claim about having a non-field-fixable fault code appear if power is lost.
Care to pass on a tip to me. I will relay it to Jim.
First Ford doesn't put a V10 in anything under a F450 starting in 2011 and the only reason anyone would a bypass battery would be a to keep the radio presets and maybe some special tuning in the computer. The factory tuning in the computer could care less it well go back to stock and will relearn any load adjustments.
