When you say, 1-2 times per year, what is a time? a few days at a time, weeks? one day?
I think you are set with what you have for just the rare instance. Just run the generator that you select and burn whatver gas you burn.
If you were going to try to boondock more often, then the fridge is killing your set-up. That would be the thing to replace first rather than trying to boost the system to power the wrong fridge for boondocking.
But for always being plugged in to shoreline then the house fridge is fine, and cheaper than an RV fridge usually.
The 2200 in eco mode will idle down when no load is on it, but if the charger is asking for power the gen will idle up as much as is needed to provide power, it will not idle when power is demanded.
Happy trails
one to two times a year would be if we went ot a country music festival. Probably Wednesday through Sunday and in all reality would most likely be once a year. An earlier post mentioned to start the 5500 in the morning for a half hour to charge the batteries. IS a half hour enough? If so, I'm sure my 2200 coudl run the fridge the rest of the day. As luck would have it, the toy hauler we both agreed we liked had a residential fridge. I was set on the rv fridge.
