I assume that you have to have a dedicated hose for emptying the sewer -- that's fine. But how does one clean out the hose after pumping is finished?
I don't clean out the hose. I have a hose shutoff valve on each end. After disconnecting from the Flojet, I raise the RV end and walk it down to the sewer end draining all the contents. Then, I close both valves to prevent any residual leakage.
Isn't there some backwash or back-flow when it is disconnected?
No
Is it difficult to clean up the Flojet itself?
I don't know, in the 11 years I have used it I have never tried. After finishing with it, I just put it back in its case.
Do you usually carry the Flojet with you, or do you leave it home?
I leave it at home. I use the stinky slinky when traveling. I use the Flojet at home because my cleanout plug is about 50' from the TT.
Is this product solidly built and reliable?
I have used mine for 11 years now, and have had it blow a grand total of 1 fuse. Otherwise, it has been top notch.I will admit to sweating a little when it blew the fuse though. I had connected it to the TT and opened the dump valve. If the fuse hadn't fixed it, it would not have been pretty. I now turn it on momentarily BEFORE opening the dump valve.
If you have had occasion to call their customer service folks, have they been available and helpful?
N/A
