Update on the axle problem.
Both axles were replaced in Ridgeland SC. 15 days after they first broke. I returned home and my RV dealer (PetesRV-CT) had me bring it in to see if they could find out what happened.
They replaced all the shackles, springs and a bushing. That was in June 2018.
July 1 I head west and on July 4 the rear axle bends yet again.
I made it to the KOA that I had reservation for and as luck would have it there is a great RV repair facility next door. Travers RV Repair in Eureka MO.
The axles are under warranty by Lippert BUT the factory was closed the week of July 4. So there is a back log. They said they would try to expedite them and called back to say they would be shipper on the 12th. Talked with Mark in Lippert tech support (Lippert will cover axle and 1 1/2 hour labor) and Brendan in products (Lippert will expedite and ship on 12th).
Called on the 13th to get a tracking number and was told they are to ship on the 22nd !!!
BACKGROUND INFO:
1) The gross weight of the camper is 7,500 lbs, weight from the factory is listed 6,132 lbs. The cargo weight is listed as 1,322 lbs. It was built with 2 axles that support 3,500 lbs each. Even with a light load you travel close to maximum weight.
2) The weight of my camper on July 9, 2018 with food and clothes for 1 person is: tongue weight 1,160 lbs, rear axle weight 6,000 lbs, total weight 7,160 lbs. That was the weight of the camper when the rear axle bent on July 4, 2018.
UPGRADE???
Lippert has an upgrade to a 4,400 lb axle. (part number V000466222 at a cost of $518.95 each)(Talked with Greg in Axle division of Lippert) It fits the current bolt configuration and is a simple swap. BUT Lippert says it is Jayco's problem to fix and Jayco says it is Lippert's problem to fix.
My dealer Petes RV in CT got involved on Thursday July 12. Sara at Pete's RV emailed me the last time on Friday at 4pm that she had talked with Lippert and was talking with Jayco.
So here I sit waiting for Monday when perhaps someone will make a decision. Why should any of them care if I am sitting here in a heat wave and have to cancel all of the plans.
Until Jayco and Lippert decide what they will do, I'm stuck here.
It is a 4 day drive home.
