Moré and more campgrounds are adding themselves to plugshare. They usually charge either a flat fee based on the car or an hourly rate. We tow an EV on a trailer. We have charged a few times at campgrounds. Most have turned down our money but we always offer to pay. We have seen a few that have added a J1772 level 2 station but it’s kind of a waste as every EVer has their own EVSE with them. We always limit ours to 16 amp as there is no hurry. Probably a good way to generate a little cash on the side for the camp ground owner.
There are a whole new family if single phase level 4 DC fast chargers available. Some utilities are using them in locations without easy three phase power available. Kinda slow but handy in some situations. The BC government and BC hydro is using them at rest stops on more remote sections of highway. We plan our lunch stop around one of them. It’s only 25 Kw but over a lunch break actually works pretty good. Campgrounds that have a restaurant of store or some other tourist attraction migh benefit from one of these. Price is a third of a normal 3 phase 100 KW DCFC.
Meh, we do probably 95 percent of our charging in our driveway but it’s nice to see the charging infrastructure growing as fast as it is. We have about 4 pre-paid RFID cards that cover the four main networks. Kinda wish they had a single card to cover them all but it’s not a big deal. Anyway, a campground could add a card reader or two to a couple of 50 amp plugs. If the campground is on a major route it might be worth it.
