Onan 4000, can I leave this disconnected? Auto Choke?

This little lid & connector came loose so I took off the linkage from the carb end, is it ok to run it like that, I know I would have to start it from outside. The unit is microlite 4000 ky model. ...

Thank you for the info, I didn't know what that was called.(bi-metal thermostatic spring)I was thinking of re-attaching it but can't see it or get my hands back there.
