Why are Solar Panels mounted to bottom instead of sides?

I have used the aluminum angle material on a number of installations. It makes them much easier to remove or make tilt brackets.
1 1/2" or 2" by 2 or 3" long. 8 pieces per panel, basically 2 pieces per mount
