bought a ramp for a scooter to put on the back of our trailer when we travel. but when i insert the 2in square tube into the hitch receiver it wobbles back and forth. is there any type of shim or other way that people use to keep it straight? thanks

I use one of these to tighten up ball mount. Roadmaster Quiet Hitch

I put a small bead of weld on 2 sides then grind them down to a snug fit. Paint and good to go.

Some bike racks (and I assume other things) use an anti-wobble pin system where the pin is actually a specialized bolt and there's a corresponding nut welded onto the passenger side of the tube. You tighten the pin with a wrench so that the nut binds the tube against the receiver, and then slip a safety clip onto the other end of the pin (which isn't threaded) like a normal pin. The system works quite effectively at greatly reducing the wobble.Some sort of a wedge would probably work as well but removal might be tricky. I'd be tempted to try a piece or two or three of cedar shake or something along those lines if I didn't intend to remove the rack anytime soon.

You need a good anti rattle device so you don't get so much play in the receiver. I have tried almost every Anti Rattle device on the market, most have been no good or so complicated and cumbersome that they are useless. Including the Roadmaster type,totally useless.Until I found the one at Hitch Rider. Their Hitch Vice is the best and easiest one I have come across and it really works.

Insert the offending receiver into the hitch, using the smallest opening you can cut into the tip of a tube of silicone sealant and squeeze a tiny bead in between the top of the receiver and the top of hitch.

After it cures you will have the quietest ride ever. If you need to remove it just pull the receiver out and peek off the little strip of silicone.

THe short answer is yes there is a solution to your problem
I have an older version of this device, they have improved it over the 13 years I've had mine

Blue Ox Hitch Immobilizer

It works well, and does exactly what you want

NOTE: I also have another company's "Knock off" product.. ****.

What is the difference. The blue ox unit all welds or joints are under COMPRESSION load. only the bolts are "Stretched" The knock off had welds that were under "Streatch" load and promptly broke.
