Ours are always closed when moving since they're in use. Never considered having them open while traveling.
This low-tech solution has always worked for me. Just make sure the other-half knows the system. Otherwise she may decide to wash that clothe, allowing the door to close. Luckly it wasn't closed long, just took some minor scrubbing. :E
