Refridgerator noise

I hear a near constant noise from my fridge. It sounds like a fan and it runs for about 10 seconds every 15 to 20 seconds. This constant on off sequence is IMO also running my batteries down in 2 days when I'm dry camping. The noise happens regardless of what mode (electric or propane) the fridge is running on.

Any thoughts on what is happening?
Any thoughts on hopw to resolve the issue?

Thanks,
  • most likely is the fan. Many fridges have a fan in the exhaust stack. If by chance it's a dometic fridge, what you are experiencing with the short cycling is a common issue. There is a fix, but in many cases requires pulling the fridge out to fix/replace the thermal switch and properly locate it.

The only other alternative I'm aware of is installing a solar vent fan in the stack. In my fridge that keeps the 12V fan from running during the day, and in cool evenings the 12V fan doesn't short cycle.
  • Have you ever opened the fridge outside compartment and taken a look, listened, done any investigation :H

Have you read thru fridge manual?

    What Brand/model of fridge?

Thank You for your reply. It is a Dometric DM2652FLBX and I have confirmed it is the fan in the exhaust stack. I'm not sure I want to pull the fridge and my stack does not go to the roof line so for now we will just live with the problem. I did send an email to Dometic to see if they had engineered a solution.

    Thanks again.

The part in bold is exactly why you have a fan. The best installation has a roof vent but some manufacturers install a fan when the refrigerator is installed without a roof vent.

I am unlikely to ever buy a rig with the refrigerator in a slide, it is a terrible installation and the refrigerators often don't work well.

Yes I cleaned it all out and blew air up the stack. No change.

Yes no information in the troubleshooting section and nothing online from Dometic

    Dometic DM2652FLBX
  • You could probably buy 2 or 3 computer muffin fans install them just inside the top vent door install a switch or thermo switch and get better refrigerator cooling and stop the short cycling fan noise. You can pick up the 12 volt power for the fans at the back of the refrigerator.
