Renogy 100w Bendable Solar Panels!

I just bought two of these, and I LOVE them. The panels are rated 100w at 19v, and using the world's cheapest, dumbest PWM charger I'm getting 60w out of each (120w total), all day long. ALL DAY LONG!

The key here is that these panels are so light (4lbs) and easy to use, I can set them on the ground and repo them every hour so that they're always perpendicular to the sun. I love them!

When I think of the 600w of Kyocera panels on top of my TT, the words that come to mind are "Giant Boat Anchors". At $2/watt for the flexible Renogy panels, I feel I'm getting much better value than the $1/watt I paid for the 150 lbs of glass panels and brackets sitting on my roof just waiting to break, or fly off on the freeway.

Next up: Tying these panels into my Flexmax 80--and buying more panels.

  • I wasn't attempting to scoff and I don't know what I'm missing. My first thought was merely, if they're so durable as advertised, why such a short warranty?
  • How do you plan to mount them?

$200 (on sale at Renogy's site - just checked) sounds like a great deal.
  • Always wonderful to have someone bag on someone's elses purchase in order to feel good about their own. Low self esteem much?
  • Regarding "60% output", I'm getting 60w at 12v out of 100w at 19v, using a cheap controller. I believe that's more like 90%, and I've gotten that for at least 9 hours out of the day, and I expect to see more like 12 hours (I have trouble getting started before 10 am).

Regarding the glass panels' durability, let's compare results after a hailstorm, or an angry neighbor throwing rocks. You Trogloditic Scoffers have no idea what you're missing!

I love my Renogy panels so much, I'm tempted to name them! And yes, I have already hugged them.

Next up: I sing them to sleep, and fuss over them as I get them ready each morning.
  • Looks interesting enough. But the one I found online only had a 5 year warranty even though it said you could walk on it! It seems most "boat anchors" come with a warranty significantly longer.
  • It would take more real estate than I have on my roof for 60% output flex panels to equal the output of my glass and aluminum boat anchors.

    Glad they work for you.
  • Why would you be "waiting to break, or fly off on the freeway"? Were they installed incorrectly?
  • If you want to get rid of the "Giant Boat Anchors"
I will happily take them off your hands
