To tie this whole discussion up, it was the dang charge controller. I hooked the panel directly to the battery, as instructed. Battery voltage went from 12.49 to 13.5 something...

I vote for not waiting; however, I am going to be out of commission for a while...
Are there any chargers (simple ones, for my simple 1-panel setup) that are made in the U.S.A.? I like the ones that show the state of charge of the battery. I need visual aids.
