OP HERE (again...)
UPDATE:
Renogy is great. The tech guy had me run through a bunch of stuff and then asked that I email him a pic of my set up. He was very patient.
While I was waiting for him to look at the picture, I measured the voltage from:
2' leads from back of panel = 12.6
Added my homemade extension cable = 12.6
Added charge controller = -12.6 (negative)
Called Renogy back and they are sending me out a new controller via FedEx (hopefully NOT SmartPost) today or tomorrow.
Why does this have to happen to someone who doesn't have a good grasp of it all? You guys would have figured it out in a matter of minutes. Me - DAYS! And only with your help. :)
I'll update when I get the new controller. If THAT doesn't make it all work, I'll just have to give up.
BUT, IF (big IF) it works, then this has been fun (for me, anyway) and a great learning experience!
