Yes my truck's 7-pin #4 is fused at 40 amps up by the truck battery. I have only seen maybe 15 amps briefly at the trailer battery which quickly tapers to more like 6 amps and holds there.
So the Renogy with 7-pin input does way better than the 7-pin by itself. However, the Renogy amps should hold at its 20 amp rating during the Bulk stage of charging. Mine only did that with the fatter wiring as described.
The DC-DC also allows you to pick a Vabs the same as the solar controller's Vabs so they add their amps. It isolates the engine battery from the house battery too, which is good with dissimilar battery types.
BTW, I see in my test I didn't do a one path fatter wire using just the neg path and left the pos path the same. Too late now.
