Replace the locks?

Have you replaced the locks on your RV? How did you do it, and did you do it yourself? Where did you get the locks and keys? I am not going to talk about how the keys fit numerous RVs as they come from the factories.
  • Easy...if you are talking about the compartment door cam locks...

Here is just one of many sources....LINK
  • If you are concerned about someone getting into your storage compartments, don't even bother with replacing the locks with the same kind, even with different keys. A screwdriver is all that is needed to pop the doors, with no visible damage even except a bent tab on the lock. Been there.

NOTHING will stop a determined thief. Windows can be broken and doors pried.

But changing the compartment locks is a low priced way to deter most. I think it is cost effective.
For the determined thief.... Well that's why I also have insurance.

So far I haven't needed it.
  • I did by putting on different locks. So either I deterred some or just gave myself more keys to carry. I like to think its some deterrence. Unfortunately if they want in they are getting in.

I took mine to a locksmith and he rekeyed them for less then half of what new locks cost.
  • I put a Schlage deadbolt on my door. Much longer bolt than the wimpy stock lock on the door.

I only paid $6.00 a lock, all keyed alike.
  • I paid $4.25 per lock all keyed the same has the RV entry/exit door.

Is this the same as I spent 15 minutes and saved 15%.................
