Gdetrailer,
Wouldn't that fridge draw about 240w/2a? I realize there is a large load at start up, but wouldn't a 500w (continuous) inverter be sufficient, as opposed to 1200w? (I run a 700w microwave, with an 1100w+ draw, off a 1000w inverter)
I measured my Haier at only 90W RUNNING, however you MUST take into account for STARTUP SURGE CURRENT.
I measured the startup surge at 9A-10A at 120V (shore power) which is 1080W- 1200W.
A 500W inverter will only have a max of 1000W surge, however elcheapo inverter manufacturers CHEAT on the surge capacity and do not SPECIFY just how long of a surge it can take.
The Tripplite PV1250 I used has 2400W surge capacity which is in MINUTES.. Those small cheap inverters only will have MICROSECONDS of surge.. Big difference.
Many have tried 800W inverters with very limited success so it is better to error on the larger size. You simply do not want to risk having the compressor not starting, if it fails to start it will overheat the compressor.
I intentional chose a inverter which has a continuous rating the same as my measured startup surge.. It is the only way to ensure the compressor will always start.
I also went overkill on the 12V wiring to the inverter, running a very short run of 1/0 wire.. This ensures the inverter 12V input will not drop below shut off under high surges.
