Hi, John,
Does a residential fridge require pure sine wave, or will it be unaffected by a modified wave?
Howdy. It depends on the fridge. The type with DC motors run fine with modified sine wave inverters (Samsung I believe) but my recommendation is to use a true sine wave inverter on any AC motor. There are some on here that run them fine on modified sine wave but the reality (and physics) says they will run better with a sine wave inverter. If you have a legacy modified sine wave inverter type you may as well try it but IN MY OPINION it makes no sense to do a new inverter install without it being a sine wave inverter.
IF you use a good quality MSW brand like a Tripplite you will not have any issues with a standard fridge compressor like what is in the Haier.
My combination Tripplite with the Haier results in a very quiet running compressor. Cheapo MSW inverters do not filter the output as well and the result is a compressor with a lot of noise.
MrWizard is also running a Tripplite on his home fridge conversion without any issues..
