Okay, that makes more sense. Another poster was talking about 17 cu ft or something like that and I couldn't imagine it being that low.
I've replaced quite a few non-boondocking units with that size from Lowes. Nice units under $300 and do an excellent job of cooling, but only ran then on 110v
It wouldn't surprise me if many of them are. I suspect many residential fridges share the same few compressor designs, and larger ones (and/or more poorly insulated ones) just run longer, but don't really consume more power while running--at least when not defrosting or making ice.
Modern household refrigerators are remarkably efficient overall. RV absorption fridges are a few times less energy efficient; their big advantage is that the energy source can easily be propane rather than electricity, and propane is much more energy dense than a lead-acid battery.
