You are assuming that trailer manufacturers will honor a request for a new placard. My manufacturer ignored my request to update some details on my placard. The request included a picture and detailed info on what I thought could be upgraded as it reflected GAWR based on the standard 15" not the optional 16" LT tires.
If it was before the papers were signed you should have used your leverage to force them to comply.
So who has actually gotten a new placard issued?
BTW placard must be correct by law at first retail sale. There is no legal requirement after first retail sale.

I’ve not found anything in the regulations that releases the owner from following the established minimum requirements set in place with the original placard. You can equal the minimum requirements or even increase them. If you use lesser equipment not recommended by the vehicle manufacturer you alone must accept the responsibility for your actions.

And yet when two people have or are going to increase beyond the minimum requirements and in fact have or will go to higher rated equipment (NOT LESSER), you harangue them for doing so, despite the fact that it is all within the law, follows the recommendation of the NHTSA, tire manufacturers, and often the instructions found in the owners manual for the trailer.
To all of the readers of this thread who consider replacing your tires with one's who's load capacity exceeds those which are posted on your tire placard -- this is perfectly legal.
Just make sure you can achieve the higher load rating with an inflation pressure that does not exceed the rating of the rim. The only thing I would caution you about is putting tires on who's maximum inflation pressure exceeds that of the rim rating -- you would want to mark that somewhere for the next owner (that would be my case if I put ST225/75R15 load range D tires on because their maximum inflation pressure is 65 but the rims are only rated to 60 -- since I will put load range C on, the maximum inflation on the sidewall will say 50 psi as will the tire placard on the trailer).
