RGV Television Reception

I have the Winegard batwing, and I added the Wingman to the antenna head and then also replaced the signal booster outlet with the Sensar Pro. Assuming you have a digital tuner in the Vizio, you can greatly increase your ability to pull in HD digital broadcast signals.

I am also in Alamo. Best reception for me is to have antenna pointed slightly south of straight east. Only thing that breaks up my signal is when the wind causes the trailer and antenna to wiggle. Happens often, but not much can be done about the wind. Trailer stabilizers help some. We are close enough that the high end antennas are not needed. Make sure your amplifier is turned on.

I also added the wingman.
Without moving the trailer we went from 8 channels to 17.
HD either comes in clear, or it'll pixelate, and go out. Not really any in between.
Wingman was a 30 second installation with no tools.

We use our VIZIO HDTV with our BATWING all the time when camping. We get full blown High DEF TV digital signals from the local towns just great.

It was so reliable for us when the BROADCAST NETWORK changed over to DIGITAL TV that we stopped bringing along our DIRECTV SAT RCVR with us. It is all FREE to us as well...

I work for a coffee supplier to 8the tv stations a d have spoken to some of the engineeers about hd and digital reception. A high 90%they of signals nationwide are now on uhf. A few channels are on the vhf high 7 to 13. For best reception you need a uhf antenna. You also need a uhf signal booster most older ones and amazingly enough most sold jn stores to this day are vhs only. To use a southern expression useful as a fifth teet on a boar hog. There are many good uhf antennas for less than $30 at places like radioshack. Remember these are directional antennas and will need to be rotated for best reception. Penty of $30 antennas out there being sold for over $100 claiming to be special hd tv antennas. Great marmstting bs.

You mention "wavy lines" and "static"...those don't exist on a digital carrier, so I assume that you are looking at analog translators or LP transmitters. The best RV antenna is still the Winegard Sensar Batwing with the Wingman that Roy showed above. Additionally Winegards Sensar Pro Signal Finder/ preamp is well worth the investment. Where we are presently camped there is a very fine line in the gain set of the preamp. 15 is too weak, and 17 is a shade too strong. 16 brings in an almost flawless picture.

PS- The number of stations may be 90% UHF in RGV, but that is not the case nationwide. VHF is alive and well and will be getting plenty more stations if the FCC has their way. Make sure your antenna performs well on VHF as well.

I guess i was not clear. If your antenna received uhf 14antenna to 83 well on the old annalog system your antenna is hd and digital ready. If not you need a uhf antenna. I would still check yout booster as if it is over about 4the years old it is probably not uhf.

One can get about thirty digital channels in the RGV with any kind of antenna at all. Of course, most are broadcast in Spanish. It is possible that the OP is getting interference with their signal. Even a tree with blowing leaves messes up the digital signal.

wavey lines and static should not be possible with modern HDTV and digital over the air,

Wavey lines may be due to interference from a nearby rotating magnetic field (FAN) or from an MSW inverter,, Static is replaced by pixelation.

What I did to improve reception:

OEM: Batwing
Adeed: Wingman

The Wingman is a UHF director array, it simply hooks onto the body of the batwing, Tools needed
Ladder to access roof
Knife to open box
Optional pair of standard pliars (Slip joint work well) to remove rubber feet from bottom of batwing,, NOTE: fingers may be enough to do this job but slip a pair of pliers in your pocket before going topside.

This increses the range (on UHF) about 50%

Added: Sensro Pro (indoor module, switch/power supply and in this case more)
