We do have an underground transformer across the street. It was replaced about 6 mos ago as regular maintenance.
BINGO!! My bet is on that.
I guess that's theoretically possible but it's heard nowhere in the house except this one rear bedroom that is the farthest away from the transformer. The two bedrooms closer to the transformer are not effected.
However, if there is an underground transformer on the street behind my house, that would be closer to the effected bedroom. I'm gonna walk over there and see if there is one. In this neighborhood, they are in the grass in the front yard on a lot of streets. Looks like a storm drain grate. You would never know it was a transformer. I've never heard any sound from one but I'll check.
