Both my Trimetric and another voltmeter I use some distance from the batteries read a bit high. AFAIK it is due to voltage drop on the long wires between the meters and the batteries they go to.
Trimetric lets you adjust the voltage reading at the monitor to match what you see at the batteries with your digital multimeter.
This is similar to the situation where if you have the solar controller a long way from the batteries, the controller thinks the batteries have a higher voltage than they really do, and stops charging them too soon.
