BFL, yes, controller can and will read higher than voltage on the battery, due to voltage drop - UNLESS controller is equipped wth a voltage sense wire that is carrying very little current and therefore relays almost correct voltage from battery to controller. Rogue comes with a voltage sense wire, and so do Morningstar controllers (as an option with that brand, AFAIK). So my 10ft booster cables #8 don't matter, and besides, Rogue display reads higher even at low 1A current.
I am reluctant to spend ~$250 on Trimetric at the moment, if this is only to correct the "visual" 0.1V difference in voltages during a day. Setpoints are adjusted only once in a batteries lifetime. Here is how I see it:
If battery needs ABS 14.6, I set ABS 14.6 by display - doesn't matter that it will transition into ABS while reading 14.7 - "actual" voltage on battery will be 14.6. This is - assuming that I'm not totally confused and controller REALLY sets 14.6 in memory when I dial 14.6 and press "set". In other words there is no distortion of data being dialed "in", - only the distortion of data going "out" of controller guts onto display.
I might get some remote display later solely for its remoteness, if the Rogue will be placed in obscure under-bed storage with batteries, rather than on the night-table right above that storage. Haven't decided this yet. There is always a chance of any remote display to read higher or lower, as you saw for yourself, so getting the one that can't be tuned-up would be annoying.
What about those $150 Victron monitors, are they adjustable? Somebody here has it - SMK maybe?
