You also need to stay competitive. Many don't have a need for a display. How often do you look at your watt meter at your house? Though it is a bit more interesting now that the house watt meter has gone digital.
Here's a cheap 10A pwm controller I use to charge a small agm battery. The battery is used as a power source to pump up kites. The cost of that controller was about $13, including shipping.

This is a 30A pwm controller. It's going into my son-in-law's new toyhauler in a couple of days. $25, inc shipping. The display is just for programming. All voltages are programmable.



I do agree you need feedback on how your solar is performing. For that, you can't beat the Turnigy Watt Meter for $24.

The display is actually the reason many people buy/bought the 3048 and 3024, so it's something that I never thought of eliminating on those models. An option for black enclosure on the 3048 is definitely a possibility, which I may explore on the next production run. Stainless is also an option.
