There are many controllers under 25W, some Ebay trinkets cost less than $15 and claim to be MPPT. I won't comment on those. People running 150-200W panel are not - usually - concerned with performance or reliability as they can't live off the solar anyway, it's an auxiliary source for them. Many (or most) don't know much about controllers, they only see that it "works" or that it doesn't, and they are not overly concerned when it stops working.
Panels are getting cheaper. As a result, new installations are now often in 400-700W range. OTH, there are fewer models in 35-60A range, i.e. for 500-700W array, and super-cheap knock-offs are non-existent. 25-30ft trailer can carry 700-800W array, but there are not too many controllers to chose from.
