SMK - I don't know much about those splice kits with shrink tube. Both the connector and shrink tube have limits of diameter "from...to". If the connector accepts AWG 8, will it crimp on as small as #12? And will the vinyl tube shrink to as small insulation as #10?
Another Q: how long the shrink tube will last in a hot sun? Vinyl is not the most UV resistant material.
And yet another Q: I see that splicers with set screws are used with heat shrink (looks like heat shrink), so this type of connector does work with heat shrink? Direct burial kit

About that AM roof box - I don't know what material it's made of, but unless it is Delrin or UHMW, it can't be much better UV and heat resistance than PVC.
