Need some education. Getting all the pieces. Have a 4*2" waterproof PVC combiner box, will run AWG 12 from panels in box, and AWG 8 out to controller. Will use mechanical splicers, for lack of experie...

Baby box is for breakers. I could do it this way, yes. One breaker. Need some sort of solar disconnect anyway.
BUT... I hear all the time that panels "are meant to be shorted", and it is controller than needs protection from short, therefore - panel breaker should be close to controller. Breaker in kitchen would be 23ft one way run to controller, not really "close". Or maybe - breaker in kitchen and a fuse near controller. My head is aching already of too much thinking...
