Samlex 1500 Watt Pure Sine Up in Smoke!

Hi All,

Have had a Samlex 1500 Pure Sine inverter installed in our 5th Wheel for about 18 months. It has worked great....till this morning...

Nothing was plugged into the inverter (it is the kind with a 120 volt socket). I unplugged the Ethernet cable (that communicates with the interior control panel)from the inverter and poof. The inverter began pumping out a significant amount of smoke....also made a few crackling noises...

I immediately powered down the 12 volt system, with the master cutoff, and removed the inverter. The inverter sure does smell like burnt electronics..

Any ideas of what happened?

As it had a 2 year warranty, it is still under warranty for another 2 months. I will be contacting Samlex on Monday.

Thanks for your thoughts...

Dan

Would help if we had the model number. From what you're saying too me it sounds like you've fried your inverter.

Have you tried powering it back up? ..... with the remote wire plugged back in?

I'd have too think something's definitely wrong and would be contacting the manufacturer ....
  • Are there any jumpers that need to be set for using the Ethernet interface? Could one or more jumpers have been inadvertently changed when the cable was disconnected?
  • Hi Dan

Long time no see. I don't have a answer about your inverter unfortunately. I'm glad it is under warranty still.

How did those Uni-solar rolls work out for you?
  • My Xantrex also says don't plug in the remote with power on to the unit.
  • No idea. My Vector inverter's manual makes a fuss about the remote having to turned to off before you disconnect the remote's plug from the inverter (telephone jack type) If you don't it will disable the inverter's on /off function.

That is not like going up in smoke, but maybe something got 'confused' in yours if the sequence was not followed?
