I love the idea of a higher voltage system too. If I had one, I would strive to go native 24v on every large load I could find (moving whole 12 circuits over where possible). I might even flip all the lights over (2 in a fixture or convert to 24v LED strings).
Then what is left in terms of control boards and such is very manageable because of the low amps. Cars with large motive batteries generally do this. They often still have a 12v battery and system but it is much reduced in size compared to traditional cars.
