Satellite question

The description of "new", "single coax" and "HDMI cable" DTV receiver could suggest it's a HR44. The HR44 requires a full array SWM dish so the MH dome won't work.

The HR44 also has component/composite outputs so he can get a $10 converter to coax to feed all of the rigs TVs. I have this setup with a open room connection between the LR and Kit TV's. Unfortunately there is a small delay between the two videos and as a result hearing the sound from both TVs is annoying.

Sounds like he has an HD satellite receiver whereas his old receiver is an SD. I now wonder if is satellite antenna can receive HD.

What satellite antenna does he have? If it is a dome then he can not use the HD receiver.

What you have is a problem, He has two choices, You can get an HDMI splitter and run HDMI cables to everything or...

You can get an HDMI modulator, basically this is a ATSC TV station in a very small box, you feed it HDMI and it sends it out as a TV signal (RF) to the remote sets.

Your RV likely has a DVD player in it, this outputs A/V only (no RF) but there is a similar box for it.. NOTE: if the Receiver has A/V out it can use that same modulator with a loss of signal quality.

My Dish VIP-211K has all 3 (HDMI, Coax, A/V) what it does not have is authorization (I do not like paying for sat TV less I need to). Will authorize if and when I need to.

Last time I googled HDMI modulators... I was very glad I was not buying one.

You first need to see if all of the TV's are HDMI compatible.

I had a HR24 receiver at home with a Slimline 5 dish with HD TV and a in motion dual LNB SD dish in the rig. Moved the receiver to the rig - SD worked great. Then one dark day in Oregon we could not get SD to watch the Olympics because in some areas of the country DTV transmits HD only. Upgraded the rig to a SWM dish (which the HR24 supports) and now had HD because of the rigs 720 TV.

Since then we upgraded the house dish to SWM and HR44 which is SWM only. Since we don't watch TV in the rigs bedroom that TV is OTA or DVD only. If I was going to upgrade the bedroom TV it would be similar Big Katunas post.

Keep in mind that DTV is not in the business of running HDMI or component/composite to remote TVs. Single coax to remote TVs using SWM and Genie Clients for each TV and of course there is a charge for each Genie Client. So you won't get much/any help from DTV for a RV.

If you are going to research for him then it would be helpful to post:
1. The model number of the home receiver
2. The model number of the rigs dish
3. The model number of the receiver previously used in the rig
4. The rigs TV model numbers or just SD or HD, HDMI capable or component/composite capable or coax input.

The bottom line: DTV is pushing multiple channel HD recording/watching capability with Genie and with one coax to each remote Genie Client for your house. You need to figure out what to do with your rig.

I suspect that your friend had no idea of the potential changes to the rig.

Of course another option might be a second DTV account for the rig with his old receiver.

Or convert the rig to HD TVs as required and SWM setup.

The new box only has one coax cable hook up that is for satellite in. The tv out is HDMI. Our problem is the he has a splitter for different TV's in the motorhome. Sounds like he now has a SWM receiver like the HR44 which is the Genie setup. He will need a SWM antenna for the rig. And a 21V power brick. He can use the composite output with a converter to coax to feed various TVs with lower quality (SD like) vs the HD HDMI. He'll have the 5 channel recording. He can watch either HD or SD channels depending upon his rigs TVs capability.

The basic Genie setup is the HR44 receiver (or other Genie receiver), SWM antenna, 21V power brick and SWM splitter (his current rig splitter won't work) with a coax to remote Genie Client receivers which is connected to the TV. Then he can watch any of the 5 recorded shows or live show from any of the remote TVs - ie each one can be watching a different channel and each one can be HD.

He can have just the HR44 and use a HDMI splitter to the remote TVs but he'll need to run HDMI cabel to each TV.

When I converted to flat HD T Vs I also switched to single wire SWM.
I got rid of the coax switch box and used the existing cable to run sat signal to the front and rear tvs with dedicated boxes. I connected the box the rear tv with component cables and bought one long 30' HDMI cable for the outside tv. I change channels from outside with an RF Directv remote.
