ScanGuage D - We should buy it?

What type of RV/Diesel do you have and what protocol is being used by the manufacturer-OBDII, J1939, or J1708? It appears as if the Ultragauge is only OBDII compatible?

I have been using the ScanGauge D now for several years with the 9 pin J1939 protocol. Of course being able to read codes is an advantage and being able to clear them is nice but, I do appreciate being able to watch specific sensor values during operation that are not available with dash gauges on my Freightliner chassis.

I have not used the Ultragauge as some have suggested so, I cannot speak to it's performance. Can't argue about the price if it will do the same. I have had good performance from the Scan Gauge D however.

Probably some of us could care less ... with most drivers on highways passing our RV at 10-20 MPH over the posted limits ... it's not important to me what my travel speed is - anywhere within the range of 57 MPH to 61 MPH in 65 MPH-on-up highway zones! ;)

My money is on the GPS because the others are at the mercy of your tire diameter.

I would bet on the GPS also, but it's the OBD II.

It's been doing this for more than 3 years on my daily commuter car (gas). A bit older than yours, not much computerized analysis can be done (if any). Like people said, results may or may not be useful. 2 possible suspects were identified in my car, both were replaced, the light was quiet for a year and then re-appeared again, few days on, few weeks off. Some issues cannot be fixed or the cost is unrealistic.

Buy it if you have faith (and disposable income). Your local shop will probably do any possible analysis for $60 and recommend some repairs, but the question is whether you can trust them. Some things they just can't do because it can't be done.

You may also want to try UltraGauge.
The screen is way better. I have 2 wired and one Bluetooth dongle version that works with iPhone or tablet.
I also have an Elm dongle with 4 other apps.

This. Yes, the dongle works with any OBD II connection and if you use the Torq app, get the pro version for Diesel.

ScanGuage is nice, but expensive if all you want to do is read codes.
