About a decade ago, I had thief jump over in my courtyard where I had a bike chained up, leave the bicycle, but steal the security chain locking the bike up. The chain manufacturer offered to send me a new one, but I wasn't sure at the time if it was stolen or if it was just misplaced, so declined that.
The morale of that story is to use a lock that is as secure, if not more so, than the chain.
