SeeLevel II issues

Were in Arizona for a 5 day trip. This is the third day and the grey and galley tanks are both still registering 0. I know that this cannot be correct. I did the basic trouble shooting and there are no messages for either short or open. Generally, a 0 indicates that the senders are responding. The power level on both is P60 to P70.

Black and fresh are reporting correctly.

Any ideas?

  • When I talked to Garnet about a problem with my Seelevel setup, they said the #1 problem is usually a bad ground somewhere in the system. They said the best thing you can do is tie all the grounds together in one spot.

Unfortunately, my problem was the dealer installed a foam block next to the sensor, and it had peeled part of the sensor off the tank.
  • OP here with an update. I have not contacted Garnet as I know that I have enough capacity based upon previous trips. The grey tank is now showing 15% which I know is not possible after days of use including showers. Galley is still 0. After I dump I am going to add some "cleaner" for the trip home and see if that resolves the situation.

    Thanks for your input.
  • I did have a minor issue with the black tank not reading zero when empty once (read 8%), but a wand flush took care of that pretty quickly. Likely some "stuff" had stuck to the side wall near enough to the external sensor to effect it. Other than that, my SeeLevel II system has been flawless since installing it in 2008.

OP: Have you talked to the folks at Garnet tech support about the problem?

X2, 5 years and running and always accurate.

  • One possibility:
According to the manual if the tank walls get enough wet gunk on them the unit will stop reporting the level.

During storage the tank walls dry out and the unit works okay but after a few days in use the stuff gets wet again and the system can't work right.

No none. But there are a lot of folks on this forum that say those responders are very inaccurate at best. Mine have never worked correctly not even out of the crate. So when the sink backs up I know the grey water is full and when the black water is slow to flush I know the black water is full. Its never been inaccurate when I test it that way. LOL.

Up until this trip, the accuracy has been excellent. I found that during installation the placement and size of the senders was critical. I taped the senders onto the tank and ran several fill/dump cycles until the numbers were very accurate. Unfortunately, if the system was installed by a dealer, they probably just slapped the sender on the tank where ever it was convenient. You have to consider high side and low side of the tank and find the best compromise location.
