Self-induced "one thing after another and another..."
I sent our group's Camp Chef grill up to the campsite with a friend, and assumed he had a 20 lb propane bottle ... :)
So, when we arrived and discovered no propane for the grill, I figured I would just pull one of my 30 lb bottles off the trailer for the weekend.
However, with 1 bottle removed and 1 bottle still in place, the regulator slid down the all thread enough that it put enough strain on the "flex" (intentionally in quotes) hose to cause a leak at the swivel crimp end. I quoted "flex" because these pigtails say "flex" hose but since new, had pretty much zero flexibility to them.
So, I moved the bottle to the empty side and hooked it up, whereas that pigtail leaked at the bottle connector!
Removed and inspected the o-ring, which had a small fleck of debris on it. Cleaned that off and the leak then moved to the crimp at the swivel at the regulator end.
Lovely! 2 pigtails failed at the same place, and we're 30 miles from the nearest propane parts supply.
Fortunately, another camper took a hose off his trailer and loaned it to me to get us through the weekend, and all turned out ok.
Time to find a couple of new pigtails! Oh, and also complete a mod I have put off for 5 years now, to put another nut down the all thread under the regulator bracket, to keep it from dropping down the stand.
