I agree that I'll be pushing the envelop pretty hard. So far there have been some great suggestions.
It comes down partly to the weather. If it is as it was this year I may have to arrange for power for Nov through March. If it is as it was in winter 2011-12 it would be a breeze with lots of solar charging during my specified times.
Another reason for no generator is that it would have to be mounted on a rack on the receiver. While I do have the rack--leaving an expensive generator out may be an invitation for it to walk.
I'm toying with the idea of an external regulator which would be a "poor man's" way of boosting the output from the alternator.
