Hi Mr. Wizard,
The whole process will be a learning experience. I've never Rv'ed without a "home base". In this case, the RV will be in storage between trips and I'll have no home to "stage" from, as I have in the past.
I'll be starting this "adventure" on May 1 (possession date for the house in Regina). Usually all the snow is gone by then--but this year it will not be so. I guess I'll be in conservation mode, electrically speaking, for this first trip. I was hoping to transition to cold weather mode during the fall, but I'll be jumping in head first.
Very few folks winter camp in extreme cold--the only ones I know of are movingsue, photo mike and one other. I think they are "in motion" a lot of each day rather than rather static, so their experiences are similar to my "out of town" trips. I believe movingsue and photo mike did boondock some nights at -40.
Hunter's most likely have a generator. I want to avoid this if I can.
If all else fails I can go and take a hotel room--and plug in the RV there.

well, he will be alone, and the wife will keep the hearth warm
it is a test of semi-full timing
after a couple of trys, he will learn what works and what he needs more of
but I admit , i don't see many Canucks jumping in and saying yeah we do this, this is how we do it
PT .. you guys are supposed to be pretty hardy, and i take this as a bad sign
not even a Hunter with a winter RV hunting camp has jumped into help out
