Regarding EFOY fuel cells, which I mention mainly just as a way to get around solar for an alternative slow-as-you-go RV battery topping up method that is not dependent on sun availability:
- Huntindog ... thanks for the heads up on the EFOY temperature operating range ... you're right. In AZ the EFOY would have to be turned on only in the evenings through early mornings when the temps were under 104 deg F. During these times the largest EFOY unit would probably supply more, or about the same, total amp hours as a very large solar system would have during maximum sun hours on days when the sun is available. During extreme cold when the days are sunny enough ... yeah I guess solar could/would trump an EFOY fuel cell.
- If I was so inclined to spend the $$, I would consider the EFOY as an all-weather solar replacement product that can be trusted ... since it's originally intended for use in the marine world. An EFOY fuel cell is NOT INTENDED as being able to supply real-time heating power - as will solar also not provide.
- Note that the noise level of an EFOY unit is 23 dB @ 25 feet and 39 dB @ 3.1 feet. IMHO, for all practical purposes "as quiet as solar".
- Here's a couple of the many links on EFOY fuel cell related discussions, including it's methanol fuel;
