Here is my formula for long term dry camping:
1. Enough batteries to last between recharges,
2. a genny for the heavier loads and bulk charging, and
3. solar to finish charging the batteries.
It is like a three legged stool. Cut off one leg and it is expensive to keep balanced. I'm not saying it cannot be done. And, yes, the batteries will never be 100% recharged; they become part of the system as a consumable just like fuel.
