In recent years there has been a sea change in panels as production ramped up for commercial, grid tie and off grid applications. As a result the 24V panel cost per watt is half of 12V panels today. And the watts/sq ft is better. This offset the higher MPPT cost for me in 2014. Since then there have been posts of lower cost MPPT offshore controllers that are very adequate. So lots to consider.
