If you place a 6 volt 1 amp-hour battery in series with a 6 volt 240 amp-hour battery the end result is a 12 volt battery with a capacity of 1 amp-hour.
True but not sure of your point.
Perhaps I should have stated that it's a given that serial panels should have the same amp rating. That's analogous to all parallel panels having the same voltage.
And if those batteries were all 1A and one cell shorted then you would still have 1A at 10V. This is analogous to a panel with a conducting bypass diode which represents a short on that panel section. What's reduced is only the voltage and not the amps.
Perhaps we could have a discussion about the pros and cons of opens and shorts for serial and parallel panels? I'm guessing this doesn't happen very often?
