Good points above. One issue for me was the much higher 12V panel cost/watt.
It's simple economics. 24V panels have a lot of volume production, your neighbors probably have them on the roof. 12V not so much. 24V costs less/watt, a lot less. Panels and controller are the major cost with hardware and wiring next.
My choice was 3 serial 24V panels with MPPT vs 6 parallel panels with PWM. Serial was $100 more and I had a much better controller. It was a no brainer.
A a big factor was strating from scratch vs others that just kept adding to their older parallel panel install.But run the numbers for your situation.
