I am not as old as you folks, so my list is going to make y'all feel REALLY old :).
Stuff I remember:
VW bugs with kits to replace the front end that made them look like fancier cars. I used to see a lot of those, driving around.
Bringing all the blankets from our bed into the truck in winter, because it had no heat and we were going to town. Yes, rk911, that was a Willys!
Our bug didn't come with a gas gauge. When you ran out of gas, you kicked over a lever on the floor and that gave you an extra gallon or so of 'reserve' fuel.
Cars did not come with seatbelts.
Seats with real springs, that bounced :).
