If so, here goes:
1) Another car I had in college had only a four-cylinder flathead engine under the hood. It was so under powered that I had to back up one of the uphill roads on campus to get to a class building. (Reverse gear in manual transmissions is usually lower than any of the forward gears.)
2) A high school friend of mine had a car way ahead of it's time ... the gear shift for it's slush-box tranny was a rod with a knob on the end that stuck straight out of the dash. He shifted the gears by pulling out or pushing in on that knob.
