Shower drain question

Just finished repairing the bath floor in Jayco 226 travel trailer. While I have the bath totally tore out,I would like to lower the tub.seems they have a Cradle that holds the tub,off the floor by 6 inches to allow for plumbing in the trap. .Well, its not easy lifting myself or my better half up over the high edged tub these days,so Id like to lower the tub,OR even install a shower pan. So,Im thinkin,WHY cant the trap be installed under the T/T and run the drain back to the grey water discharge with a T installed?.Anyone know of ANY reason why I shouldnt make my life easier with this modification?Height is not a problem.Thanks.

  • Why not replace the p-trap with the waterless type trap? These are commonly used to provide more/less space under showers and sinks.

  • Do you ever want to use the shower/tub while not connected to a sewer outlet? What you're suggesting is to bypass the gray water tank for the shower. As long as you're OK with that limitation, I don't see any reason why it would not be perfectly workable.

If you do plumb it as you're proposing, make sure you put in a proper vent system between the trap and the sewer hose outlet. Otherwise, dumping your tanks will quite likely suck the water out of the shower trap, letting sewer gasses into the RV.
