But if I did something similar with mine, what would my Prog Ind EMS-LCHW30 have to say about that open ground?
According to the docs, if it finds an open ground (or open neutral) it "will not allow power to the RV"
Returning to this earlier comment of yours, let's clarify this isn't really about an "open ground" or "open neutral" but rather a floating neutral, meaning neutral isn't bonded to ground at the source supply, in this case an inverter. The confusion is that a polarity checker, as correctly pointed out by both pianotuna and BFL13, seems to mistakenly indicate a floating neutral as an "open ground". In fact, the polarity checker I have doesn't even have a "floating neutral" indicator so it would seem an erroneous "open ground" is the best it can come up with. :S Apparently my Surge Guard deals with this floating neutral just fine and doesn't interpret it as an error in incoming source power, as does the polarity checker. The point is that although your EMS docs may indicate it logically won't pass signal if there's an "open ground" or "open neutral" that to me is not the same as a floating neutral which it may deal with just fine, as does my Surge Guard.
Makes sense. And as posted above the EMS seems well aware of bonded versus floating 120V systems, so may not have an issue with it, unlike the polarity checkers. I'll hopefully find out in a few days.
