SK-3005 can't find DirecTV 110 ?

Anyone else having this problem? As of today there is no carrier off of the three transponders on 110 used by DIRECTV, so it really doesn't matter, but the dish takes at least 15 minutes to align it self, even if I stow and re-deploy from the same location (which used to require no searching at all), and once finally done, the control box shows that 110 was NOT found. My guess is that's what's causing it to take so long and it finally gives up.

Winegard is blaming it on a dead LNB, but I see the same zero carrier at home and am beginning to wonder. Anyone else seeing this anomaly ?
  • Do you have beam maps for Dish?

I get DTV LA locals in Q or Phoenix locals in Q and the beam maps show Q is within the local spot beam maps. It's helpful to me to know what to expect as I travel.
  • UPDATE
After checking the sky at the storage facility, at home, 12 days in Quartzsite, and now at Lake Cahuilla, I have nothing coming off of 110 at all; UNTIL TODAY.

We moved sites which meant redeploying the antenna, and it appears that xponder 10 is now active in the So. Cal area again. It's not strong but it's there.
  • Jeff,

What's your status on this issue? On a Monaco board another uses has the same problem and apparently confirmed by Winegard. If it helps I can try and find out his location.
  • Winegard didn't say a word when I talked to them..

It seems that Direct has routed one transponder (x10 IIRC) either into the CONUS antenna, or a spot beam antenna as I can now see carrier out in here in Cochella. Alls I can now tell you is that the Traveler is now way happier that is has something on 110 to look at.

It would be nice if someone at Winegard could tell us if that antenna looks for a pilot ID carrier or transponder carrier..
  • UPDATE..

I've now done this expirement twice: Once in January, and again this week

When in the desert: Quartzsite, Palm Springs, La Quinta (Lake Cahuilla), I see 110W and the dish locks and aligns to it just fine, and the two transponders shown on the list do have carrier, although not strong.

When "over the hill" to the west: Temecula (about 50Mi W from Cahuilla), Santa Clarita, and all the way to the Ventura coast, 110W is not received at all. And the antenna takes a LONG time to go through alignment: 15-20min easy because it's missing one of the 3 satellites it's attempting to align itself on.

Earlier in the thread someone said 110 was being used in Puerto Rico, and I was able to confirm that. But it's obviously got a spot beam to the east of the Los Angeles basin; Las Vegas, Phoenix, etc.. It's too bad there aren't more folks that can look for this around the country. It would be interesting to see where else 110W shows up ?
  • UPDATE TO AN OLD THREAD

LOOK WHAT JUST APPEARED BACK IN SOUTHERN CALIF.

110 has been missing from the Travler SL5 for over a year WEST of the Cochella Valley. I have seen it in Quartzsite and LaQuinta, but when moving to Temecula and west, it's gone.. until this weekend. And the search is back to its old speedy self again.
  • they might have 'rotated' the 110sat in place, to bring another horn online for the spot beam

i don't know if that means re-programing which signals goto which horn
so that all the spot beams get the correct programing

dunno, my friend that was Dir. of Engineering for Direct left the company. So far I don't see anything on the receiver, but the beacon is at least now pointing this way :)
  • I have been following this thread since the start. That is very interesting.
We are currently parked in the trees with just a hint of the birds being visible and my Travler locked on and showed all three. We are in Florida so I am speaking to a different issue. Even though all three showed locked on the receivers apparently are not getting enough signal to work. Ok, I understand that but it is curious and interesting.

Now the part that makes me go grrr, is that the receivers won't let me watch my recorded shows or watch the over the air signals through my magic box that ties into the receiver. If I could see the over the air signals and record those it would be nice.
