Sleep Number Mattress

If you decide not to buy the Sleep Number, an alternative is the www.bedinabox.com Original PacBed, 11" deep (for more firmness) and with gel (for coolness). Very comfortable mattress. We've had it 5 years. We bought it at the recommendation of folks on this forum. They ship it in a box. Remove the old mattress, bring in the box, carefully unwrap it (shrink wrap) and voila! instant bed.

We put a (residential) Sleep Number in our fiver in January of 07. Don't think they had RV types back then. We full-timed on it for 4 years and most-timed for another couple of years, then most winters. We have had zero problems. I put in a little Black & Decker inverter (400w) sourced from a hardware store in Cody, WY so wouldn't have to drag out and fire up the generator to adjust it. I keep my control velcro'd to the wall beside the bed. I can reach up and inflate or Brady the mattress without even waking up.
The inverter is wired to a dedicated outlet I installed in a handy place, and mattress adjustments is all it does.
On edit, we live at over 7,600 feet. When we leave, we go up or down as our only choices, so about have to have that inverter.

That is what a friend says also, I tell him " you are correct and I have never slept better than on my glorified air mattress. "

I install fire sprinklers for a living, climbing, lifting, pulling pipe wrenches, I can go to bed with a sore body and wake up without any pain.

We have had our Sleep Number for 8 years, full time, now. Love it and would not buy anything different.

I don't know about the sleep number, but most air mattress use very low pressure, 5psi or less. you can easily see 1-2psi change going from low to high elevation, enough that if it is full at low elevation you risk getting a slow leak at seams at high elevation.

We have an "air dream" mattress, what is used in high end sleeper sofa's, extremely comfortable, it is an air bladder over a coil spring. has worked well for us over the years in the trailer. It does require 110V to inflate. We ALWAYS make sure to mostly deflate it before traveling. going from sea level to 5,000 ft, the mostly deflated becomes mostly inflated.

Even 1500 ft elevation change makes a difference in inflation with this or a airbed mattress.

The RV models do not keep it from expanding and bursting. The RV models are specific to the actual size of the Full/Queen/King in RV's. RV's seem to NOT be the exact same size as Home models. We also have to call a specific Sleep Number phone number when the SC is under warranty. Doug

1. Sleep Number can burst when one with already high setting in an RV is driven to a much higher altitude. Just look at a bag of nacho chips and you'll see it firm up in the Rockies.

2. SN offers an "RV" version (no doubt even more expensive) that is supposed to keep 1. above from not happening.

Glorified air mattress, IMHO. Skip it and get a proper mattress.

And keep the change.

We are on our second one, gave our 18 year old sleep number bed to our daughter and her husband and we bought a new one, you only need 110 volts when setting pressure, I have not changed my sleep number in about ten months at the house so it could realistically be unplugged.

Never a problem with ours either, we would buy again.

When going up in elevation you need to drop the pressure down to 30-40. If at high pressure when you start up, you could blow it.
