Put the air mattress on the floor and forget setting up the sofa-bed. Sounds like we have the same type of sofa-bed, and I agree. The mattress on the bed-setup is horrible. Last time my adult son came along with us, he tried the couch and the floor. He preferred the floor. When we tested ourselves, we preferred the floor.
Because we have only 1 bed in our TT, we need the availability to set up a second bed somewhere. We very seldom (like only 1 time) have we had another person camp with us. So we are thinking a nice camping air mattress with an electric pump (something 6 inches thick or more) would be a much better than that thin thing that came with the couch.
A thicker air mattress on that sofa-bed just might take out the lumps and unevenness, but definitely would work better on the floor. So, we think, if we ever have a guest again, we're going out first and getting a new air mattress.
