I agree If it was work for someone no way but if it was mine ya solder it heat shrink it and heat shrink the whole thing then bury the line. I would bet you are not the only one to do this I kick mine over and weed eat then kick it back! Ha its to short to bury and Im to cheap to buy an extra cord. You can go to the nearest menards home depot of TSC and get a Deep Well Wire splice kit also no soldering then and comes with waterproof heat shrink. here is what Im talking about
