I have been using the same refractometer for near 40 years. It is completely insensitive to temperature and reads either coolant or battery. Mine is no longer manufactured, the newer version of the instrument is ~150$, But, you can get the Chinese version on Ebay for less than 20$us. <= Shipped But shop carefully and get a scale you like.
